NEXT WAVE X THE UNIVERSITY OF MELBOURNE

Carrier II explores the psychological, social and cultural ways of viewing and valuing women's everyday labour. Referring to her performances as 'meditation postures', the artist undertakes physical and psychological experiments that test the limits of her body, playfully and painfully. Reflecting on the experience of migrating to Australia, the work celebrates women's strength, endurance and resilience. Her application of alluring, luminous colours underlie a dark humour, echoing the dissonance in her approach to self-objectification as site of submission and active resistance.

Presented by Next Wave in Partnership with the New Student Precinct Project.
